Part of a Beautiful Community

β€œIt begins with sitting together and acknowledging, I see you. I understand your experience, and we can navigate this together."

Mental Health Partnerships finds itself in a unique position post-COVID-19. The pandemic has brought mental health issues to the forefront and reduced stigma through online discussions. As an organization amplifying the voices of those with lived experiences of mental health disorders, Mental Health Partnerships is well-placed to provide access to this work.

Peer work is inherently natural and has historically thrived within marginalized communities. Certified peer specialists offer a professional pathway for individuals with lived experience to help others on their mental health journey. They can easily connect with those who have been mistreated in other systems, those who may not seek traditional therapy, and those who struggle to access resources. CPS serves as a crucial bridge to connect individuals with the services they need. It begins with sitting together and acknowledging, "I see you. I understand your experience, and we can navigate this together."

Leading The Institute alongside an exceptional team, many of whom have their own mental health diagnoses, has shown me the empowerment and impact of peers in the mental health field. I'm grateful for this inspiring community. Personally, as a mother of a child dealing with mental health challenges, I draw from my lived experiences to inform my advocacy for my staff. When I look at those we train and my team members, I always consider how I'd want my son to be treated if he were on the receiving end. Dignity and respect are non-negotiable in my approach to work.

The community of individuals living with mental health diagnoses is a beautiful one, and I'm thankful to be part of an organization that values and encourages sharing lived experiences and authenticity.
