About the Program

The Friends Connection was founded in 1989 in response to the changing mental health and chemical dependency hospitalization environment, and as a result of the closure of the Philadelphia State Hospital. An innovative community outreach program, the Friends Connection provides peer support services to assist people with mental health and substance abuse problems with the development of resources for living, learning, and working successfully in the community. The Friends Connection is a program for community action administered by the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
