Dear Friends,

It is an exciting time to be at the Friends Connection! I joined the staff last May and it has been wonderful to be a part of the change and growth that the Friends Connection has been experiencing over the past months. After all, the experience of change and growth is very familiar to our program participants.

We are, first and foremost, a mobile psychosocial treatment program dedicated to helping others find their way in recovery. In fact, for the past 11 years, the Friends Connection has provided one-to-one peer support counseling and assisted program participants in the development of natural and community based recovery and social supports.

In doing so, individuals reduce their substance use and the feeling of boredom, loneliness and isolation which is often associated with addiction and mental illness. Through the process of engaging individuals in community based recovery, social, cultural, education and recreational activities, we introduce program participants to new people, places and things and they are empowered to design their own successful recovery and rehabilitation plans.

The Friends Connection sponsors social and recreational activities in the community that are open to all individuals and agencies in the Behavioral Healthcare System. We sponsor monthly sober dances, a weekly Double Trouble group, billiards, bowling, basketball, skating parties, swim parties and trips to the New Jersey State Aquarium and Longwood Gardens.

We believe that there is something here for everyone. So please make a referral, come to a dance, take a trip with us, attend a Double Trouble meeting, contribute a poem to our newsletter, put your roller skates on, join us at a celebration....walk that journey of recovery with us!

The Friends Connection jumps through hoops to support individuals with co-occurring disorders.
